Name: Hulbert House
Location: Queenstown
Typology: Restoration & Heritage Conservation
Hulbert House was built in 1886 on a site overlooking the town of Queenstown. It was designed by the prominent Dunedin architects Mason and Wales and included high quality interiors with moulded plaster ceiling roses, fine timber joinery and painted glass.
We prepared plans to convert the house into a top class boutique hotel. The layout of the house remained virtually unchanged and the only new element was a conservatory designed to fit between two existing wings of the house. Two new bedrooms were added by using the generous attic space and a new kitchen fitted. The house was fitted with sprinklers and fully earthquake strengthened.
