Process

In all our work, we think primarily about the building or site and about our clients’ needs.  This informs the outcome of each project.

We believe New Zealand has a rich architectural history which can be drawn upon to craft buildings for our clients that are deeply rooted in the unique South Island environment and landscape. The work we deliver is a result of a four staged process, which applies to new builds and adaptive reuse of heritage structures alike.

Investigation

Investigation

Project-specific research and listening to the needs of our clients, buildings, sites, environments and landscape and analysis of what we find.  Empathy is critical in our approach to our clients and their projects.

Synthesis

Synthesis

Combining all the often diverse threads of our Investigation & Understanding stage into a holistic new idea.

Design

Design

Out of Synthesis, our designs are aimed to meet modern day needs for warmth, comfortable and energy-efficiency buildings.  Where we are involved in heritage buildings, we can provided advice on how to undertake repair and conservation techniques based upon our extensive knowledge of traditional building crafts and materials and how they can be recreated and brought back to life in the 21st century.

Production

Production

Our knowledge and expertise has been developed by a long experience of buildings of all types and ages and by combining all the skills we have within the practice into one cohesive approach: new architectural design, adaptive reuse of old buildings, archaeology, building surveying and heritage conservation.
