Name: Gibbston House
Location: Gibbston Valley
Typology: New Build
Built on a north-facing platform the house is designed to make the most of the sun and the views over the vines towards the Kawarau River. The construction incorporates an airtight membrane and the building envelope achieves very high insulation values.
Dark polished concrete floors in the living room absorb heat from the sun during the day to help keep the main living spaces warm at night. Photovoltaic panels on the roof also generate electricity from the sun during the day. Wide overhanging eaves provide shade in the summer and protect the external walls from rain in the winter.
